Inc. Magazine recently published an article by Link Logistics chief executive officer Luke J. Petherbridge about the value of emotional intelligence for leaders today. Writing for Inc. Masters, an invitation-only membership community for executives of the fastest-growing private companies in America, Petherbridge discusses the heightened importance of emotional intelligence and how it can help drive business success.
“Employees today are faced with multiple crises nationally and internationally, from the recent pandemic, to global conflicts and instability, to intensifying pressures on water resources and energy infrastructure,” he writes in the article. “This background makes emotional intelligence (EQ)—not just IQ—more mission-critical for leaders than ever before. Increasingly, I believe that leaders who emphasize EQ will be more effective as leaders, resulting in better business outcomes.”
Petherbridge also shares the benefits he sees when leaders practice emotional intelligence and how he tries to prioritize it in his own role.
“Taking the time to build strong relationships and encouraging others to do the same creates an organization in which individuals root for one another and are invested in collective success,” he writes.
